The mission of the District One Medical Examiner's Office (D1MEO) of Florida is to serve and protect the interest of the community by maintaining the highest standard of professionalism and integrity in determining the cause and manner of death.

​Our vision is to be a national leader in science and investigation as we seek the truth on behalf of the families and community members we serve. We are committed to collaboration, excellence and compassion.

​D1MEO strives to investigate thoroughly and professionally the cause, manner, circumstance, and mechanism of death in those cases defined under the Florida Statute, Chapter 406 and according to recommendations provided under the Administrative Procedures Act, Rule Chapter 11G. Provide credible, objective, truthful and scientifically sound medicolegal testimony. Provide statistical data to State and public agencies as requested. Educate and train medicolegal experts. Treat bereaved families with respect, sensitivity and consideration. Provide families and loved ones of decedents with timely reports and explanations. Render courteous and professional service to public and private agencies and to the public in general and to engage in legal, ethical and meaningful research.
